Northeast Regional Conference 2019
Highlights of the Northeast Regional Conference
At its fullest, there were 110 people in the room including attendees and exhibitors for Friday’s trade show / product expo and educational event. The mix was approximately 65 attendees and 45 exhibit personnel among the 30 booths.
Reviews of the various presentations were positive. Our own James Savage and Anthony Stazzone each presented warmly received presentations about their companies’ products as applied to the theme Challenges of Cold Weather Construction.
The second day’s education was geared toward Chapter Leaders. The focus was on digital marketing strategies and techniques. The first presentation on why and how to build/maintain a website was helpful for folks to understand, but in reality not something that the Chapter level staffers in attendance were going to be able to utilize. The second presentation, specifically about Social Media Usage was more helpful and valuable. We were encouraged to start using those avenues to stay engaged with our membership, in particular with the Institute’s push to bring in younger members.
THE NJ Chapter WINS Award!
The New Jersey Chapter had a successful year bringing in new members and won an award to prove it. While both “Large Chapters” (Boston & NY) saw membership decline, the New Jersey Chapter increased its membership by a larger percentage than any other in the region.
The Region renewed and expanded the contract for web and marketing assistance with its’ external staff, Terry & Matt. Chapters are encouraged to take advantage of their expertise and availability to assist with e-mail marketing for newsletters and for events as well as administering AIA education.
It gets Better…
The Regional Board added a line-item in the next year’s budget for Chapters to use to pay for speakers to come in to present. Chapters will apply for Grant money (total $5,000) to be used to improve or enhance programming.
Regional President Needed…
Though the Region was able to elect a new Secretary, nobody has yet to come up with a nominee for Regional President. To entice interested parties who may be scared off by the amount of travel to 15 Chapters, the Regional Board is willing to spread that commitment out among the Executive Committee members to relieve the burden on the President. Anyone interested?
Next Year’s Event…
The Plymouth Massachusetts Chapter (with support from Boston) will be hosting the Northeast Regional Conference of CSI on May 29-31, 2020.
